Proposal Story According to Mercy:

So it was about 4 o'clock on Tuesday Januray 22nd and I hadn't talked to Chris since the morning. When Chris wasn't answering my phone calls I was starting to get worried. I called Chris' friend and roommate, Justin, to see if he knew where Chris was. I had a feeling Justin was lieing when he said he had no clue, since he had been in class with him all day, or so I thought. Finally Justin spilled the beans and told me the last he heard Chris was heading to Temecula. Of course Chris and I had been talking about getting engaged so I knew right away that if he was going to Temecula without telling me he must have been going to talk to my Dad. I replied “Oh, I know why he’s going toTemecula” Justin not wanting to get in trouble for spilling the beans began stumbling over every word trying to make up some excuse why Chris was in Temecula but he ended up conceding with "Mercy don't ruin it, c'mon it's supposed to be a surprise. Just act like you don't know."

Later that night Chris called and told me that Justin had called him in a panic and confessed to accidentally spilling the beans about him being in Temecula. He told me that the talk with my dad went well but that my dad wanted to talk to both of us on Wednesday night over dinner. Of course this made me extremely nervous. What could my dad possibly want to talk to us about together? He had already talked to both of us seperately. I was so worried about what my dad was going to say that I  didn’t even want to go. But Chris said, “Don’t worry. I think it will be good. We can go to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel before and pray about it before we go over to your house.”

The next day Chris picked me up at my house in Vista and we headed to the Church. I was so nervous about what my dad was going to say I could hardly enjoy the ride. When we walked into the Chapel there was one of the Knights of Columbus, our friend Jeff, on a cherry-picker painting the inside of the chapel singing away as the beeping of his cherry-picker lift echoed throughout the empty church. I don’t think it was quite the setting Chris had pictured. Anyway after praying for a while Chris asked if I wanted to go out to the Our Lady of Guadelupe Grotto which was right outside the chapel. As we approached to statue of Our Lady Chris asked me if I was still nervous about going to my parents house. I said, “Yes.” Then he said “well, you don’t have to be nervous, we are just going to go over to your house to celebrate!” And as a flood of tears ran from my eyes he got down on one knee and said “Mercy, I would want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you Marry me?” of course my response was “YES!”
